According to EnterpriseAppsToday website, people are likely to give up on their New Year’s Resolutions by January 19th and only 9% of people are successful in accomplishing their resolutions. The odds are not in our favor when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions.

Instead, “A clear and compelling personal vision can transform your life” according to the authors of the book Helping People Change. The authors continue by stating that when we come up with a goal, the analytic side of our brain often impairs how we think and feel which makes achieving more difficult. Instead, focus on a compelling vision and your brain thinks more globally and creatively in achieving the vision. It’s like the difference between I want to lose 10 pounds versus I want to be the healthiest version of myself.  The latter is more powerful approach to transformation.

How do you create a personal vision? The authors suggest pausing and asking this question:

What twenty-seven things do I want to experience, try, or accomplish in a lifetime?

Why not pause right now and write out the twenty-seven things you want to accomplish.  I just did this exercise and found to be very helpful in forming my personal vision.

As you begin 2023, why not consider writing down your personal vision in life?
